Dyson Racing Tour

Empire State Region – Hudson Valley Chapter

Dyson Racing

Following the monthly Cavallini e Caffe at the Eastdale development, the Empire
State Region’s Hudson Valley Chapter toured the facilities of Dyson Racing in Poughkeepsie, NY on June 5, 2022. Dyson is the premier sports car racing team in IMSA Trans Am today, and has a long history in motorsports beginning in the 70’s in SCCA racing. They’ve raced and won in a wide variety of series and classes including wins at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona and LeMans. There are many famous cars of the past at the shop including a Gurney Eagle Indy car and the first customer Porsche 962.

The Dyson facility was busy with their IMSA Trans Am Mustangs that had recently returned to the shop from a 1-2 win at Lime Rock Park over the Memorial Day weekend. This race represented the third consecutive time Dyson had won the Memorial Day Trans Am at Lime Rock. In addition to the race cars, Dyson does restoration work on cars. A genuine 289 Cobra was in the shop for repairs to its clutch and transmission that had exploded while being driven. Several other race and track cars were present. Finally, Rob’s Model A, a car he bought and rebuilt when in high school, was a comforting sight in the shop. Dyson’s Chief Engineer provided the group with detailed information about each and every aspect of the team and its cars. Every question was answered, and the members certainly came away with a though understanding of what it takes to field a winning race team. The Region is indebted to Dyson Racing for their graciousness in allowing us to see the inside of their operation.
